"Canada's jobless rate hit a 30-year low of 6.1 per cent in December as 62,000 more people found jobs. Statistics Canada reported that the economy created 345,000 new jobs in 2006, a 2.1 per cent increase and the highest growth rate since 2002. This marked the 14th consecutive year of job growth. In 2006, Alberta surged ahead in employment growth, showing its largest surge in 26 years. Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador, and British Columbia also finished the year above the national employment growth rate."
