Community Health Centres (CHCs) are non-profit, community-governed organizations that provide primary health care, health promotion and community development services, using interdisciplinary teams of health providers. These teams often include physicians, nurse practitioners, dietitians, health promoters, counsellors and others who are paid by salary, rather than through a fee-for-service system.

At the Teen Health Centre (THC), we envision a community where our young people achieve mental and physical health by making informed choices regarding the development of their total being – mind, body and spirit. It is our vision that through the services we provide in a welcoming and respectful environment, we can empower youth to do just that - make healthy choices.

  • We currently have over 14,000 active clients with an average 200 new clients a month
  • We offer over 40 programs and services to the community
  • We currently operate 27 points of service throughout the county

Although our services are generally targeted at youth between the ages of 12 and 24, we also have many resources available to parents, educators, and other community members.

In a recent survey, 95% of our clients indicate that they rely on the confidential, non-judgmental care they receive.

  • We average 1,435 medical visits per month
  • We average 600 visits for counselling each month
  • We see over 4,000 youth per year for group services such as
  • anger management, eating disorders, self-esteem and leadership training
  • Our Street Health homeless initiative has over 350 families registered
  • Our Kids Alliance program served over 5,000 children in 2006 through community initiatives
  • We currently have an average of 4,700 “hits” per month
