"The Ontario Liberals have promised to focus on child poverty in Thursday's budget, the McGuinty government's fourth and final spending plan before this fall's provincial election.

"We will bring a focus … to the fact that nearly a million children in Ontario are growing up in poverty," Premier Dalton McGuinty told reporters Wednesday.

Some say the child poverty agenda and an expected increase in the minimum wage are aimed at deflating the New Democrats to prevent a loss of support to the left-wing party."
